1.    What is Ultra low light camera?

In security industry, camera has 4 grades currently:
1.1    General cameras, illumination is greater than 0.1Lux;
1.2    Low-light cameras, Illumination is between 0.1 Lux to 0.01 Lux cameras;
1.3    Moonlight-level cameras, the illumination range were 0.01Lux to 0.002Lux;
1.4    Ultra low-light cameras, the illumination range meet and exceed 0.001Lux

Ultra low light camera, under the stars environment, even without any external auxiliary light source, also show a clear color images, have color image in 24 hours , no smearing which low light cameras appeared, meet the high-quality surveillance demand at night.


2.    Where use Ultra low-light cameras?

2.1    In safe city, hotels, office buildings, residential quarters, schools, ports, highways and streets, which need high image quality, but lack of light at night, and could not install  a large-scale lighting facilities, In this case, you need install a Ultra low-light cameras to ensure high-quality image,  and simplify the system structure to achieve better reliability and lower cost.

2.2    In forests, hospitals, Ultra low illumination cameras will be installed, because the lighting is not good and should not be applied to add light source. Such as hospitals, in order to ensure the patient to rest, it is inconvenient to fill light or other ways to improve the environment illumination.

2.3    There are some places no conditions plus light, also requires ultra low-light cameras. For example, some sites, oil fields, factories, yard and other outdoor areas, monitoring area is large and no street lights. In this case, the ordinary cameras can`t guarantee good results, in order to ensure high-quality image, also need to use ultra low-light cameras.

2.4    Such as museums prohibit infrared, and these places must be monitored 24 hours; In some explosive warehouses, coal mine, due to the large heat of infrared cameras, easily fire caused by spontaneous combustion, an infrared camera is also prohibited in these places; Military coastline and other places, since the wavelength from infrared camera can easily be found in some special equipment. So infrared camera is prohibited, only choose ultra low-light cameras.


3.    What is a good Ultra low-light camera?

Many factors will affect the sensitivity of the camera, including the iris, lens quality, an image sensor (CCD or CMOS) quality and size, gain size, exposure time, image processing methods, etc. We can evaluate from 5 indicators: Resolution, Color reproduction, Noise, Light suppression (BLC), Bit Rate. We use JVT Ultra low-light camera as a example to do a system test whose results can really reflect the performance of ultra-low-light camera.

3.1    Horizontal resolution is 1070 TVL, vertical resolution reach 1100 TVL, edge sharpness is 850TVL

3.2    Color reproduction is good

3.3    Noise was controlled

3.4    Light suppression (BLC) are perfect
